We asked our 'Tired Mother Community' Member Katie Robinson to share her story with us of how she turned her life into one that excites her and makes her want to help others do the same thing.

Several years ago, I landed a big fancy corporate job. It was all I’d ever wanted. What I’d worked for. My dream job. But it was a nightmare. I was working long hours, nights, weekends, and even holidays. I was always on a deadline and felt so much pressure to complete my endless to-do list. I thought I wasn’t cut out for the role half the time. Like, everyone else made it look easy, so why couldn’t I hack it?

I’d come home and take 5 min. in the driveway to myself, sometimes crying. Because I knew no matter how hard the day had been, it wasn’t over. There’d be needy dogs, a whiny kid, and an attention-deprived husband inside waiting for me in a house that would look like a nuclear bomb had gone off while I was at work. I’d finally walk in the door, and everyone was hungry, and it was my job to feed them. After dinner, I’d do the dishes, clean the house, put my son to bed, and crawl into bed at 9 to answer emails and Slack messages for another 2 hours before I logged off. At 6am the next day, it would start all over again.

I was exhausted.

I was depleted.

I was hopeless.

And I was resentful. So resentful.

My husband never seemed to have a problem relaxing after work. He’d hang on the couch while I did literally EVERYTHING – dinner, dishes, dogs, kid, laundry. You name it, he was nowhere to be found. So, I’d snap at him, then I’d snap at the dogs, and even my son sometimes. I was miserable to be around, and I knew it. I felt so guilty and ashamed for acting that way, but how could I change? If I stopped doing everything, I was sure my house would fall apart, and with it, my life.

An old colleague of mine had gone into life coaching and reached out to offer me a free session. After the session, I felt empowered for the first time in over a decade to do something about my situation. So, I decided to keep going. Working closely with her, I restored the balance in my life, and with it, my sanity, marriage, career, and happiness.

Then one day, my life got turned upside down. I got swept up in the corporate layoffs. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had been given the greatest gift of a lifetime. Time. Time to discover my purpose…my calling. I knew I wanted to do more to help other women who were like me. I wanted to help them reclaim their lives the way I had reclaimed mine.

So, in 2023 left corporate America and founded Halo Effect – a coaching practice built from the ground up by a woman who has walked many miles in your shoes.

If this sounds like you, I see you. I was you. I can help you.
